Introduction

Established in 1984, the Bendemeer Primary School Concert Band has blossomed to a strong team of 100 members, under the tutelage of our esteemed band director, Mr Quek Boon Hui, assisted by Mr Jonathan Lim.

Besides clinching the “Concert Band of the Year” title in 2000 and SYF 2012 and 2010 Gold with Honours, the band, to date, has won 9 Gold and 4 Silver Awards at the SYF Central Judging of Concert Bands. In the recent years, our band has achieved the Certificate of Distinction award at the SYF Arts Presentations in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

During SG50, we were proud to be performing at the Moulmein-Kallang GRC & Whampoa SMC SG50 National Day dinner, attended by our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and other ministers and grassroots advisors. The band has showcased their talents in public at the Istana, the Esplanade, the Botanic Gardens and Singapore Zoological Gardens, and it participates actively in overseas and local music exchange programmes.

They have entertained our ministers and the community with their fine performances at National Day Observance ceremonies (Geylang West CC, Kolam Ayer ABC Waterfront, The Treasury) and at Launch of Clean and Green Singapore in 2013. In 2012, it clinched the Gold award at the Hong Kong Winterband Festival.

Objectives

1) To inculcate in band members the finer aspects of playing as a band unit;
2) To upgrade the skills of individual members on their respective musical instruments;
3) To develop in members a sense of pride and belonging to the school through their band experiences
