How BDP Pupils Study About The ‘social’

In January 2012, a revised Social Studies curriculum was rolled out nationally for the Primary 1 and 2 levels. This revised curriculum will be used in Primary 3 and 4 in 2013, followed by Primary 5 and 6 in 2014. The content begins with the individual perspective of the pupil, and broadens over the years to encompass the pupil's environment: the community, the country, the region and the world.

Through an updated approach and revised content to make the subject more relevant to pupils, Social Studies seek to inculcate in them a deeper understanding of the values that define Singaporean society. Social Studies also help pupils to understand the interconnectedness in the world they live and the complexities of the human experience.

There are many manipulatives for pupils to add to the hands-on approach complemented with online resources to make their learning more interactive and engaging during each lesson. At Bendemeer, the Social Studies department conducts both formative and summative assessments for all pupils as part of holistic and creative learning. The department also strives to collaborate with other Core and Non-Core departments to bring out the best in the Social Studies learning experience.
